Shasta Raceway Park was
pleased to welcome the Mini Cup and Baby Grand racers to the track for the first time.
Despite a light car count, these young racers really put on a great show. There were
more lead changes and spot-swapping than is seen in most late model races with 15 cars !
Got to hand it to these future stars, they really know how to drive ! Special thanks to
all the drivers who made the tow out to race. Dylan
Hutchinson
dominated the Baby Grand division by setting fast time, winning the Trophy Dash and the
main event. He also held sway in the Mini Cups battling with Chase Grigsby side by side
till a backstretch spin relegated him to the back of the pack. He charged back to a
3 place finish behind winner Chase Grigsby and second place Brent Curran.
Although they were a last minute addition to this week's schedule the
Franklin Auto Part Bombers intrepid drivers put on one of the best shows of the
season. At the center of the attention were Bobby Crowell, Lee Welch and Robert
Pacey. During the 30 lap main event which had the cars going 15 laps clockwise
(backwards) then 15 laps counterclockwise, Lee Welch started on the pole but quickly
Crowell's #89 joined him at the front and they raced a side-by-side dozen laps. When
the cars were reversed, this
time "Corndog Crowell" had a dozen lap battle with "Racey" Robert
Pacey. After a hard fought battle and a clean as a whistle pass, Pacey took home the
trophy for the win. He also set a possible track record for the most Fast Time
Qualifyings in the Bomber Division.
The Mini Stock division had some great racing too. Ken Krause #8 set the
fast time of the night with a 18.289 second circuit. Scotty Murphy, returning in his
new car, won the trophy dash over Nanci Wright. Grandpa Bob and Scotty Murphy won
their respective heat races and young Christopher Kuska took home his very first Feature
Event Win !
