July 3rd, 2008 - No Fireworks, in the Sky, That Is
Although the traditional 3rd of July "Anderson Explodes" firework show was
postponed due to the extreme fire danger, the "on-track" fireworks made up for
the aerial display. In Late Model action, Derek Copeland set the fast time at a
super fast 16.939 seconds. Trophy Dash saw Copeland, Eric Gannon, Alan Pyszora and
Bill Lancaster battling for 4 laps. Despite some strong nudges from Lancaster Eric
Gannon held off the pack to take the Trophy Dash Win. The Main Event saw some major
contact between Gary Pyszora and son, Alan which took both frustrated drivers to the back
of the pack. The top 3 runners, Bill Lancaster in the lead, Eric Gannon and Derek
Copeland fought a long hard race but in the white flag lap Derek took an opportunity to
dive under Lancaster to take the checkered flag. This was the second win for
Copeland in only 4 starts in the Hen House sponsored Late Model.
Modifieds - it just keeps getting better. This week saw 11 cars fill
the field with new comers Tyler Wolf and Keith Bloom Jr. running in the class. When
not running at Shasta, Tyler Wolf runs a 410 Sprint Car at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway.
Bloom, like Wolf, comes from the Red Bluff Outlaws Dirt Kart background, but
Bloom has moved in the Wingless Spec Sprint division at Silver Dollar and has maintained a
top points position all season. Fast time for the division was set by Kyle Borden in
the #39X and in the Trophy Dash long-time Shasta Modified driver Kelly Peacock held off
last years champ, Keven Brink to take the trophy win. In the Main Event Charlie
Kramm took to the front of the pack quickly with Kelly Peacock in tow. But Kramm's
6K MetroPCS sponsored car held off the whole field to take a much celebrated win.
Mini Stocks - Dale Stelt took his wicked-fast VW bug around the track for
the fastest lap in qualifying. He was pitted against Nanci Wright, Ken Krause and
Scotty Murphy for the Trophy Dash. But Scotty Murphy, who just returned to racing
after his car suffered a major accident took the win. The Main Event saw some
awesome racing and Ken Krause took the flag just ahead of Stelt and Christopher Kuska.
The
Bombers - Robert Pacey once again set fast time in the class - with a 20.034 second lap.
But it was young David Dillenger who took the honors in the Trophy Dash. David continued
his winning night by also winning the Main Event
