Flips, Fires, Friction and Fun as Pro 4s and Legends Take to SRP
August 9th, 2008
It's hard to imagine that the Pro 4 Modifieds could put on a better
show than the last one, but they did. 11 of these awesome cars hit the track with
times nearly as fast as their full size cousins and battled long and hard in all their
races but it was John Barker in the smokin' #14 who took the checkered home. The fans are
looking forward to the next race on Aug. 9th with the Pro 4 Mods will be returning to race
at Shasta Raceway Park.
Triple Crown win in the Legends
The Legends of the Pacific held their points race at the track and 12
beautiful Legend cars took the field including Chad Foster in the #12 Monster Energy Legend. Foster dominated the
racing by winning the Legends Trophy Dash, his Heat Race, and taking a hard fought win in
the Feature Event. Micah Parmer set the fastest lap of the night in qualifying with 18.870
seconds, but was unable to overcome Foster, who qualified second, in the Trophy Dash.
A highlight of the main event was a spectacular oil fire. As Dallas
Colodny the driver of the #72 Legend, came out of turn one he heard a strange popping
sound and suddenly the entire car erupted in a comet-like ball of flames. The talented
young driver, who normally runs in the ASA Speed Truck Challenge (4th in current points
standings) drove the car to the hasty stop and bailed from cockpit before he suffered any
injuries. Fans and officials alike agreed it was one of the most spectacular car
fires in the history of the Shasta track.
Gotta love the Modifieds - each time they race
it is a guaranteed awesome run, and Saturday night was no exception.
"Badboy" Kyle Borden wheeled his #39x around the track for the fastest
qualifying lap at only 16.419 seconds. The Trophy Dash line-up finished with Kelly Peacock
taking the win followed by Kevin Brink, Jon Vanderpool and Badboy Borden. Veteran
Shasta runner Stan Gunderson took his first Heat Race win of the night and the other heat
win went to Guy Young. But it was all about the "Racin' Auctioneer", Mr.
Jack Epperson during the Feature Event. Epperson dominated that race and held the
lead during a couple of yellow flag restarts while a bit of bumping and banging ensued
behind him.
Another Triple Crown - and a bit of Brotherly Love in the Late
Models
Substituting for Alan Pyszora this week, Steven Gannon - multi-class
champion from Shasta Speedway and the Red Bluff Outlaws, took the National Guard #8 to
Victory Circle in twice. Brother, Eric Gannon in the Need2Speed #2 set the quick
time of the night. Steven qualified 4th won the Trophy Dash, his Heat Race and the
Main Event. However, it was not an easy win. Eric rode his tail the whole
time. As the laps ticked down Eric increased the pressure on little brother,
sticking the nose of his car way up under the body of the #8. "It was good
clean fun" Said Steven after the race. "The car was not perfect, but I wasn't
gonna let Eric get by." I knew he raced me clean, and that's what makes it so
much fun."
Hornets on their Hoods !
Although I don't currently have the results for the Hornets battles, I can tell you that
Bo Nicholson took a nasty flip right in front of the flagstand - track crew got their
quick and Bo was A-OK.
